Thassos
Thassos is an attractive island with beautiful beaches, green landscape, and traditional architecture. As this is a place with a long history, the most interesting sightseeing in Thassos is the Ancient Agora, a site with old temples, remains of sanctuaries, an Ancient Theatre, and other buildings. Very interesting is also the Monastery of Archangel Michael, protector of the island, with a great view of the sea. Many hiking paths cross the center of Thassos, leading to old castles, mountain peaks and traditional villages, such as Panagia, Potamia and Theologos, where a nice folklore museum is found.
Golden Beach
Golden Beach called (Chrysi Ammoudia), the largest beach on Thassos Island, is located on the east side of the island and is only 12 km far from the capital town Limenas. This popular beach is located between settlements of Skala Potamias and Skala Panagia. It has clear blue waters and it is surrounded by a lush green landscape and mountains. In fact, for several years this beach has been awarded by the Blue Flag for its clean waters and for the benefits it offers. It is an organized beach with sun beds, bars and restaurants but also quiet places to relax. Its shallow sea is suitable for families with children and there is also an access for the disabled people.
Giola
Giola or “The Tear of Aphrodite” is an amazing natural pool on Thasos Island. This natural wonder was created by the sea waves and rocks as its waters are just a few centimetres away from the sea and they are constantly renewed. Its turquoise waters are ideal for diving from its rocks that are up to 8 meters high while its depth reaches 3 meters. Giola is located on the southeast side of the island, between Psili Ammos and Potos, about 40 km far from the Port of Thassos Town.
Limenas
In Limenas (Thassos Town), the capital of the island, there are many archeological sites including ancient market, archaeological museum and ancient theatre. At archeological museum you can become acquainted with the ancient culture of Thasos through various ceramic constructions, sculptures, and prehistoric collections. You can also walk at the main pedestrian street with shops, souvenirs, restaurants and bars.
Monastery
The Holy Monastery of the Archangel Michael on Thassos, is a nunnery on the southeast side of the island. It is built high, on the edge of the cliff with an amazing view to the Aegean Sea. It is said that one of the nails used for the crucifixion of Christ is hidden there. The monastery attracts many pilgrims every year.
Aliki Beach
The settlement of Aliki combines one of the most beautiful beaches of the island with an archaeological site. It is located on the southeast side of the island and it consists of two beaches, one organized with restaurants and sun beds and one quieter with lush vegetation. At Aliki you can visit an ancient marble quarry and other archaeological sites.
Village of Panagia
The traditional village of Panagia is 7 km far from Limenas and only 4 km far from Golden Beach. In this green highland village, you will find traditional taverns with various delicacies, cafes, picturesque houses, cobbled streets for walks and cool waters. It is worth visiting the Three Springs, the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and to enjoy the Greek hospitality, the view to the mountain and the sea.
Theologos
Theologos at an altitude of 200m is located in the southern part of the island 48 km far from Tereza Golden. It is a very beautiful village full of traditional houses and a folklore museum. It is one of the oldest villages in Thassos and it was declared a traditional settlement by the Greek government in 1979 for its superb architecture. Theologos is also famous for its taverns with traditional specialties – roasted lamb and goat. A visit to the waterfalls of ‘Kefalogourna’, the old lime kilns, the oil mills and watermills that still exist in the area, will bring your mind to the past times when man and nature used to live in harmony.
